Home goods sourced from around the world

Empowering and supporting artisans around the world

About the handmade goods:

  • Cactus silk pillows are crafted from a natural fiber derived from the Agave cactus plant. The process begins with harvesting the fibers from the cactus leaves, which are then cleaned and spun into threads. These threads are woven into a fabric that is both soft and durable. The woven fabric is then dyed with natural colors and sewn into pillow covers. The result is a pillow that combines sustainability with a luxurious, silky feel. Lastly, the pillow cover is sunbleached, creating a vintage, natural, and one of a kind color.

  • Vintage Boujaad pillows are crafted from traditional Moroccan Boujaad rugs, renowned for their intricate, handwoven designs and vibrant colors. The creation process begins with the rugs themselves, which are made by Berber weavers in Morocco using traditional techniques on horizontal looms. These rugs, often woven from wool or a wool blend, develop a distinctive vintage patina over time due to natural wear and fading.

Once sourced, these vintage rugs are carefully cleaned and then repurposed into pillows. The rugs are cut to the desired size for the pillows, and the edges are sewn to form the pillow covers.

  • For centuries, women have passed down this ancient weaving technique to their daughters. The baskets, sourced from Uganda, South Africa, Rwanda, and Zambia, use materials like raffia, banana bark, sisal, and elephant grass. The process involves soaking or steaming the fibers, then splitting and dyeing them. Artisans coil and stitch the fibers into intricate patterns using plant-based threads.

  • These bags are traditionally handcrafted in Morocco and showcase a rich blend of cultural artistry and functional design.

Traditionally used for carrying fruit/ vegetables in the market.

Made from durable materials like woven palm leaves or straw, Moroccan market bags are known for their resilience and eco-friendliness. Artisans weave the bags using techniques passed down through generations, often incorporating colorful patterns and intricate designs

  • Cactus Silk Pillows:

All sabra (cactus silk) cushions, throws and rugs must be dry cleaned to prevent colours from bleeding or fading

The colours will run if washed in water.

Dry clean if needed by accredited dry cleaner (please check with your dry cleaner first).

'Do not machine wash' as liquid will discolour these pieces due to their natural hand dying techniques.

You can spot clean with a slightly damp cloth if necessary.

    'Do Not Machine Wash'

    'Do not tumble dry.'

Ok to iron on a low heat. Hang on a clothes line to air out in the sun.

Please note: There are imperfections from the hand-dying process (small blotches, bleeding etc). This adds to the character and charm of the pillow cover.

Vintage Boujaad pillows: machine wash in cold water and then hang to dry

Each thread and woven strand represents an individual story and culture

How it started

Terra Loom Studio was born out of a love for travel, art, and home design. When traveling to Morocco, I fell in love with the culture, people, and the colorful textiles that talented Artisans created with their hands. I wanted to find a way to support artisans and their families from all over the world, so I created a textile/ home goods shop. I pick out designs/ styles that I would put in my own home. My hope is that your home, too, can be filled with art from around the world- whether that be a rug, baskets, or a beautiful throw pillow.
